The Angry Birds Movie 2 represents a 2019 animated comedy film derived from the Angry Birds video game franchise and serves as the second entry in the cinematic series after The Angry Birds Movie (2016). This film was directed by Thurop Van Orman and written by Peter Ackerman, Eyal Podell, and Jonathon E. Stewart. The voice cast includes Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Bill Hader, Danny McBride, and Peter Dinklage reprising their original roles, while Leslie Jones, Rachel Bloom, Awkwafina, Sterling K. Brown, and Eugenio Derbez join the ensemble. The story sees the birds and pigs collaborating to prevent Eagle Island's ruler from destroying both islands.
Production was handled by Sony Pictures Animation and Rovio Entertainment. Heitor Pereira composed the musical score once again, with contributions from Kesha and Luke Combs for the soundtrack. The film also incorporates classical pop songs from the 1960s to 2000s, continuing the tradition established in the first movie.
The Angry Birds Movie 2 premiered in Finland on August 7, 2019 and in the United States on August 14 through Sony Pictures Releasing. Critics generally responded favorably, viewing it as an enhancement over its predecessor, and the film earned $153 million against a $65 million budget. A follow-up titled The Angry Birds Movie 3 is scheduled for release on December 23, 2026 under Paramount Pictures.
