A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood 2019
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is a 2019 American biographical drama film about TV host Fred Rogers. It was directed by Marielle Heller and written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster. The movie draws from the 1998 Esquire article "Can You Say... Hero?" by Tom Junod. Starring Tom Hanks, Matthew Rhys, Susan Kelechi Watson, and Chris Cooper, it follows Lloyd Vogel (Rhys), a journalist from Esquire who is tasked with interviewing television legend Fred Rogers (Hanks).
The film made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2019 and opened in U.S. theaters on November 22, 2019 through Sony Pictures Releasing. It earned $68 million globally. Reviews highlighted Hanks and Rhys's acting, Heller’s direction, and the film’s uplifting themes. Time magazine selected it as one of the ten best movies of the year. Hanks received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor along with nods from Golden Globes, Critics' Choice, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and BAFTA Awards.
