The Kitchen 2019
A 2019 American crime film, The Kitchen was written and directed by Andrea Berloff in her first time behind the camera. Based on the DC/Vertigo Comics limited series created by Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle, the story follows Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, and Elisabeth Moss who become involved in organized crime after their husbands are arrested by the FBI in late 1970s in New York's Hell's Kitchen. Supporting cast includes Domhnall Gleeson, James Badge Dale, Brian d'Arcy James, Jeremy Bobb, Margo Martindale, Common, and Bill Camp.
Produced by New Line Cinema, Bron Creative, and Michael De Luca Productions, the film opened in theaters on August 9, 2019 in the United States through Warner Bros. Pictures. Critics largely disliked the convoluted storyline, though they praised the performances of McCarthy, Moss, and Haddish. The movie earned $16 million at the box office against a $38 million budget, resulting in a financial failure.
