HistoricalIndependentWar

A 2019 war film titled Midway was directed by Roland Emmerich, produced with Harald Kloser, and written by Wes Tooke. This remake follows the 1976 American film also named Midway. The story focuses on the first six months of the Pacific Theater during World War II, starting from the Attack on Pearl Harbor through to the Battle of Midway. Leading roles are played by Ed Skrein, Patrick Wilson, Luke Evans, Aaron Eckhart, Nick Jonas, Mandy Moore, Dennis Quaid, Tadanobu Asano, Darren Criss, and Woody Harrelson.

Director Emmerich considered this film a personal project, facing difficulties in securing funding until he managed to gather enough money and officially announced the production in 2017. Most of the main cast signed on in 2018, with principal photography beginning in Hawaii and additional scenes filmed in Montreal. The production cost $100million, making it one of the most expensive independent films ever made.

Released theatrically by Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment in the United States on November 8, 2019, Midway received mixed reviews from critics who appreciated its visual effects but found fault with the script. The movie failed at the box office, earning $127.4 million globally while its budget was $100 million.
