Biographical dramaIndependent

A 2019 biographical drama film, Judy focuses on the final year of American entertainer Judy Garland's life. The movie, directed by Rupert Goold, adapts the Olivier- and Tony-nominated West End and Broadway play End of the Rainbow by Peter Quilter. Starring Renée Zellweger, Jessie Buckley, Finn Wittrock, Rufus Sewell, and Michael Gambon, it traces Garland's journey as she moves her stage career to England. Flashbacks include her early days, particularly filming The Wizard of Oz (1939) as Dorothy Gale, her most recognized role.

Following initial success with sell-out concerts at London’s Talk of the Town, Garland's career begins to decline. Her health worsens during this period. The film premiered at the 46th Telluride Film Festival on 30 August 2019, then released in the United States on 27 September 2019 and in the United Kingdom on 2 October 2019. Critics responded positively, especially praising Zellweger's performance. She earned the Academy Award for Best Actress, along with Golden Globe, SAG, BAFTA, and Critics' Choice Movie Award honors for portraying Garland.
