Toy Story 4 is a 2019 American animated comedy-drama film that was directed by Josh Cooley and written by Andrew Stanton and Stephany Folsom. The production was handled by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures, making it the fourth movie in Pixar’s Toy Story series. The original voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Annie Potts, and Joan Cusack return, while new additions to the cast include Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Christina Hendricks, Keanu Reeves, and Ally Maki. During the plot, Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the toys travel with their new owner, Bonnie, who brings along Forky — a spork constructed from recyclable items from her school. Along the way, Woody encounters Bo Peep again, forcing him to choose where his loyalty truly lies. Don Rickles, who passed away in 2017, appears posthumously as Mr. Potato Head using unused audio recordings.

Plans for a Toy Story 4 sequel began in 2010, just before Toy Story 3 was released. The project was officially announced in November 2014 during a corporate meeting, revealing it would be directed by John Lasseter, who had co-created the original film. Later, he confirmed that the movie would be a love story after working on a treatment with others. In March 2015, Cooley was named as co-director, and eventually replaced Lasseter in directing the picture. The screenplay included many changes involving Cooley, Stanton, Folsom, Lasseter, Rashida Jones, Will McCormack, Valerie LaPointe, and Martin Hynes, all of whom received story credit. Composer Randy Newman returned to compose the score for Toy Story 4, marking his ninth time working with Pixar.

Toy Story 4 had its premiere in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on June 11, 2019 and opened in U.S. theaters on June 21. It earned $1.074 billion globally, making it the eighth top-grossing movie of 2019 and the highest-earning film within the franchise, slightly outperforming Toy Story 3. Critics praised the film for its storyline, comedy, emotional resonance, music, animation quality, and voice acting. The movie was nominated for two awards at the 92nd Academy Awards, winning Best Animated Feature, and also received numerous other honors. A follow-up, Toy Story 5, debuted on June 19, 2026.
