A 2019 British/American urban fantasy action-adventure film, The Kid Who Would Be King was written and directed by Joe Cornish. Starring Louis Ashbourne Serkis, Tom Taylor, Dean Chaumoo, Rhianna Doris, Angus Imrie, Rebecca Ferguson, and Patrick Stewart, the story centers on a young boy who discovers King Arthur's legendary sword Excalibur. He must wield it to prevent an ancient enchantress from enslaving the world. His classmates—including former bullies—help him in this quest.
The film was produced and distributed by 20th Century Fox in collaboration with Working Title Films. It premiered in the United States on 25 January 2019 and in the United Kingdom on 15 February 2019. Though it garnered positive reviews, the movie failed commercially, with estimated studio losses reaching up to $50 million. This film was also nearly the last release from 20th Century Fox, following Alita: Battle Angel, before The Walt Disney Company acquired 21st Century Fox on 20 March 2019.
