A 2019 American epic crime film, The Irishman, also titled I Heard You Paint Houses, was made by Martin Scorsese who directed and produced it. Steven Zaillian wrote the screenplay based on I Heard You Paint Houses by Charles Brandt, a book published in 2004. The main cast includes Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci. Supporting roles are played by Ray Romano, Bobby Cannavale, Anna Paquin, Stephen Graham, Stephanie Kurtzuba, Jesse Plemons, and Harvey Keitel. This biographical film tells the story of Frank Sheeran (De Niro), a truck driver who turns into a hitman. He works with mobster Russell Bufalino (Pesci) and his family before later serving Jimmy Hoffa (Pacino), a powerful Teamster leader. This marks the ninth time Scorsese has worked with De Niro, plus his sixth with Harvey Keitel, fourth with Joe Pesci, and first with Al Pacino. It also represents the fourth collaboration between Pacino and De Niro, and the first one between Pacino and Pesci.

In September 2014, after a long period of development issues, Scorsese's next project was revealed to be The Irishman, following Silence (2016). That month, De Niro confirmed his role as both actor and producer. Pacino joined the cast soon after. Pesci returned from retirement due to persistent invitations. Principal filming started in September 2017 in New York City and parts of Long Island including Mineola and Williston Park, wrapping up in March 2018. Special equipment was used including a unique three-camera system designed for advanced digital effects that aged De Niro, Pacino, and Pesci younger on screen. The film runs 209 minutes long, making it Scorsese’s longest work to date.

The Irishman made its debut at the 57th New York Film Festival. It opened in limited theaters on November 1, 2019, followed by a streaming release on November 27, 2019 through Netflix. Critics praised the film widely, especially Scorsese’s direction, production design, costumes, editing, screenplay, cinematography, and performances by De Niro, Pacino, and Pesci. The National Board of Review named it Best Film of 2019, while the American Film Institute listed it among their top ten. It received nominations in ten categories at the 92nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture, along with many other honors.
