The Grudge 2019
A 2019 American supernatural horror film, The Grudge, known on home media as The Grudge: The Untold Chapter, was written and directed by Nicolas Pesce. This soft reboot of the American The Grudge series originates from the 2002 Japanese horror film Ju-On: The Grudge. The narrative unfolds before and during events in the 2004 film and its sequels The Grudge 2 and The Grudge 3. Starring Andrea Riseborough, Demián Bichir, John Cho, Betty Gilpin, Lin Shaye, and Jacki Weaver, the story follows a police officer investigating multiple murders linked to one house.
In 2011, a fourth American The Grudge film was announced. By March 2014, it was revealed that Jeff Buhler would write the script for a soft reboot. In July 2017, filmmaker Nicolas Pesce joined to revise Buhler's script and direct the production. Principal photography occurred from May through June 2018 with a budget ranging from $12 to 14 million.
The Grudge debuted in Indonesia on December 31, 2019 through Sony Pictures Releasing, then expanded to other international markets over the following days, finally arriving in the United States on January 3, 2020. Critics and audiences responded negatively, and the film earned $49.5 million worldwide.
