Random Acts of Violence 2019
A 2019 slasher film based on a 2010 graphic novel, Random Acts of Violence was directed and produced by Jay Baruchel with screenplay written by Jesse Chabot. The story centers on a comic book creator played by Jesse Williams, whose work inspires a series of actual killings. Jordana Brewster and Baruchel also appear in the film.
Development began in 2011 when Baruchel and Chabot were brought on to write the adaptation. Multiple production delays occurred over the following years before principal photography commenced between August 2018 and September 2018.
The movie premiered at the 2019 Fantastic Fest and opened in Canada through Telefilm Canada on July 31, 2020. It later released in the United States on August 20 via streaming service Shudder. Critics responded with mixed views on the film's message, though most appreciated its special effects and gore.
