A 2019 folk horror film, Midsommar was written and directed by Ari Aster. The movie features Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor as an American couple who become involved with a deadly cult in rural Sweden. Additional roles are played by William Jackson Harper, Vilhelm Blomgren, Ellora Torchia, Archie Madekwe, and Will Poulter.

This co-production between the United States and Sweden began as a simple slasher concept involving Swedish cult members. Although parts of that original idea persist, the final version centers on a failing relationship influenced by a recent breakup experienced by Aster. The soundtrack was created by British electronic artist Bobby Krlic, incorporating Nordic folk influences. Principal photography occurred primarily in the Budapest region of Hungary between July and October 2018.

The film opened in theaters in the United States through A24 on July 3, 2019, while Nordisk Film distributed it in Sweden on July 10, 2019. Midsommar earned $48 million at the box office and garnered favorable reviews, particularly for Aster's direction and Pugh's acting.
