Comedy-drama

A 2019 American comedy-drama film, Late Night was directed by Nisha Ganatra and written by Mindy Kaling. The movie features Emma Thompson in the role of a well-known TV host who brings on a new writer, played by Kaling, to prevent her show from being cancelled. Supporting actors include Max Casella, Hugh Dancy, John Lithgow, Denis O'Hare, Reid Scott, and Amy Ryan.

Fox 2000 Pictures originally planned to produce the film in 2016 after acquiring Kaling's script. Paul Feig was initially set to direct, but in August 2017, Ganatra took over the directing role, and the project was then picked up by FilmNation Entertainment. The majority of the cast joined in April 2018, with principal photography beginning later that month in New York City.

The film had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 25, 2019, after which Amazon Studios secured domestic distribution rights for a record $13 million. Late Night opened in theaters across the United States on June 7, 2019. Critics responded positively, especially praising the satire, screenplay, and Thompson's acting. For her role, Thompson earned a nomination at the 77th Golden Globe Awards in the Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical category.
