Horror

Crawl is a 2019 American natural horror film directed by Alexandre Aja, who also produced alongside Sam Raimi and Craig Flores. The movie features Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper in roles as a daughter and father caught in their home's crawl space with their dog during a Category 5 hurricane in Florida, hunted by alligators. Aja adapted the original spec script by the Rasmussen brothers, expanding its scope and character development. The film’s official announcement occurred in May 2018, followed by production beginning in August in Serbia under cinematographer Maxime Alexandre. Principal photography took place mainly inside a warehouse at the Port of Belgrade and concluded after 41 days. Post-production included score composition by Max Aruj and Steffen Thum, with Rodeo FX handling visual effects over three months. The film was distributed by Paramount Pictures and bypassed standard press screenings prior to its U.S. release on July 12, 2019. It achieved both critical acclaim and box office success, garnering praise for action, direction, pacing, and effects, earning a Best Wide Release nomination at the 2020 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards. Grossing $91 million against a $13.5–15 million budget, a sequel is set for release in July 2027.
