Blackbird 2019
Blackbird is a 2019 American drama film directed by Roger Michell and written by Christian Torpe. It serves as a remake of the 2014 Danish film Silent Heart, also written by Torpe. The movie features Susan Sarandon, Kate Winslet, Mia Wasikowska, Lindsay Duncan, Rainn Wilson, Bex Taylor-Klaus, and Sam Neill in starring roles.
A family of three generations comes together over a weekend to farewell their matriarch Lily, who suffers from an incurable illness. Alongside her husband Paul, Lily has decided to pursue euthanasia by the end of the weekend. As the time draws near, the matriarch's choice grows increasingly hard for her two daughters to accept, reviving long-buried tensions.
The film made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2019. It was issued on September 18, 2020 through Screen Media Films.
