The Outer Worlds 2 2025
The Outer Worlds 2 is a 2025 action role-playing game made by Obsidian Entertainment and distributed by Xbox Game Studios. It serves as a self-contained follow-up to The Outer Worlds (2019), taking place in the Arcadia planetary system where a megacorporation has launched an invasion. Players control an Earth Directorate Agent who must discover the cause of expanding rifts endangering the colony during a conflict between factions.
Like its predecessor, The Outer Worlds 2 uses a first-person view, though it now allows switching to third-person perspective, a feature not available in the original except for short segments. Gameplay includes shifting between combat, stealth and dialogue mechanics when facing enemies in the open world. The game also preserves the dialogue tree structure from the earlier title, which shapes story branches based on player choices with companions and supporting figures.
Development of The Outer Worlds 2 started soon after the initial game's launch in 2019, with full production beginning two years later. Tim Cain, who helped direct the first game before departing Obsidian in 2020, stayed on as a creative advisor during development.
The Outer Worlds 2 launched for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on October 29, 2025. Although critics gave it mostly favorable feedback, the game did not reach the sales targets set by Xbox Game Studios.
