Survival

Abiotic Factor is a 2025 survival video game developed by New Zealand-based independent studio Deep Field Games and published by Playstack. The game was released for Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on 22 July 2025, following an early access release in May 2024. Set in 1993, players take on the role of scientists lost in a massive underground research station located in the Australian outback. In the game, players gather furniture, collect office materials, create tools, construct defenses, fend off paranormal breaches, and navigate interdimensional passages to reach the surface.

Development started in early 2022 with a remote team of approximately ten creators. The co-op experience was shaped by influences from games such as Valheim and Sea of Thieves, while visual style and environment were inspired by Valve's Half-Life series. During its time in early access, Abiotic Factor received three significant updates: "Crush Depth" on 12 August 2024, "Dark Energy" on 4 February 2025, and, with the full launch on 22 July 2025, "Cold Fusion".

The game earned critical acclaim for its unique genre fusion, storytelling, and multiplayer features. It was met with strong positive feedback on Steam and was shortlisted for "Best Multiplayer Game" at the 2024 Golden Joystick Awards.
