Players must dig as large a hole as possible, discovering ores along the way that can be sold at a barn to buy new or upgraded tools. The game took roughly 14 days to design and launched on Steam in February 7, 2025. Critics and players responded favorably, with 250,000 copies sold within the first week. A sequel titled A Game About Digging a Hole Together will arrive for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on December 4, 2026.
