Sleep Awake is a 2025 first person psychological horror indie game developed by Eyes Out, founded by Spec Ops: The Line's Cory Davis and Robin Finck of Nine Inch Nails, and published by Blumhouse Games. The game was released on December 2, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S with a mixed reception.
Players take control of Katja (played by Persia Numan) within an ever-shifting far futuristic world known as The Crush. In this environment, players must navigate through death cults and otherworldly forces while remaining conscious at all times. Although the game includes puzzle-solving and stealth sequences to avoid a group called the DTM, the core mechanic involves eyedrops for anti-sleep defusion. Falling asleep in this game could result in immediate failure.
Developer Eyes Out is headquartered in Los Angeles. Blumhouse Games revealed Sleep Awake during the Summer Game Fest on June 7, 2024. The musical score was composed by the game's co-director Robin Finck of Nine Inch Nails, incorporating brooding guitar themes, immersive synth arrangements and evolving rhythmic patterns that reflect emotional and existential depth along with stylistic originality.
The title was announced for release on December 2, 2025 during the Indie Horror Showcase.
Sleep Awake garnered "mixed or average reviews" according to 12 critic reviews as compiled by Metacritic. 50% of reviewers recommended Sleep Awake on OpenCritic. Polygon praised the visuals and soundtrack, calling the unconventional plot more grounded in reality for a satisfying, thought-provoking, and genuinely distinctive experience. Bloody Disgusting awarded the game a solid 3 out of 5, commending its visual presentation but criticizing the weak narrative and underdeveloped gameplay elements.
