Shuten Order 2025
Shuten Order is a 2025 adventure-visual novel and multi-genre video game that was developed by Too Kyo Games and Neilo, and published by Spike Chunsoft and Exnoa. Set within the city-state of Shuten, which is ruled by the main religious cult, the narrative centers on Rei Shimobe, a reincarnated figure who was revived without memories in a temporary body through divine power. To achieve permanent resurrection, Rei must complete God's Trial by discovering her murderer among the five ministers of Shuten’s government. The game first launched for Windows and Nintendo Switch on September 5, 2025, followed by an enhanced version for the Nintendo Switch 2 released that November.
The game unfolds across five distinct routes, each allowing Rei to investigate one of the ministers. Each route uses a different gameplay style, such as point-and-click adventure, dating simulator, or stealth-based horror. The collaboration between Too Kyo and DMM Games (a unit of Exnoa) was led by Too Kyo’s Kazutaka Kodaka, directed by Takumi Nakazawa, and produced by DMM’s Junta Inagaki. As an omnibus-style video game, it aimed to present various elements from the adventure genre. Art director Masafumi Takada employed vivid colors to contrast with the religious tone of the story. The soundtrack was composed by .
Upon its release, Shuten Order received mixed reviews. Its critical reception and sales were hindered by a flawed English localization that included numerous grammatical errors, though these were later corrected in a patch. Some critics felt the gameplay styles were underdeveloped, but others appreciated the game's concept, story, characters, art direction, soundtrack, and voice cast—particularly Mitsuki Saiga’s performance as Rei.
