Action role-playing

Monster Hunter Wilds is a 2025 action role-playing game made by Capcom. It continues the story from Monster Hunter: World, which came out in 2018. The game launched globally on PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S on February 28, 2025. Players can enjoy cross-platform gameplay across these systems. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is under development and set to arrive on December 4, 2026.

In this game, players take on the role of a hunter from a guild sent into the Forbidden Lands. This area has many biomes and dangerous weather events. Hunters complete tasks by fighting large monsters—either killing or capturing them. After battles, hunters gather materials to craft new weapons and armor that help them face tougher enemies. There are fourteen weapon types available, each with its own combat moves. Wilds introduces a new feature where players can carry two weapons at once using Seikrets, bird-like mounts that allow switching gear. Players can also place pop-up camps anywhere in the world to improve gameplay flow. A new wound system lets hunters target weak spots on monsters for extra damage.

The game supports both single-player and multiplayer modes with up to three other players joining during quests. This is the first title in the series to enable cross-platform play among all versions. Within just 8 million copies sold in the first three days after release, Wilds became Capcom's fastest-selling title ever. Critics gave it mostly positive feedback, especially for its deeper story and improved open world. However, some players noted issues with the technical performance, particularly on Windows.

A major update called Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is expected to come out in 2027.
