Action-adventure, stealth

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a 2025 action-adventure stealth game made and released by Konami. It serves as a remake of the 2004 title Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, which was the fifth primary entry in the Metal Gear series and the first story-wise. The game takes place in 1964 and follows a FOX operative known by the codename Naked Snake. His mission involves rescuing a key Soviet rocket scientist and destroying the Soviet nuclear weapon called Shagohod, all while clearing the United States of suspicion during Cold War tensions by facing his former mentor, the Boss, who has joined the Soviets.

This game marks the first significant release in the Metal Gear franchise since Metal Gear Survive came out in 2018, when Konami shifted focus from high-budget third-party console games to lower-cost and mobile titles. The internal development team at Konami Digital Entertainment created the title, with Noriaki Okamura, who worked on Metal Gear Survive and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (2006), and Yuji Korekado, creative producer for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (2015), overseeing the project. Additional work was done by Singapore-based studio Virtuos. The announcement happened in May 2023. Snake Eater was selected for remaking because of its role as an origin story for the series and its important characters. The name Delta came from the team’s intent to accurately recreate the original gameplay and narrative using updated visuals and improvements, while maintaining most of the original structure.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater launched on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on August 28, 2025. Critics responded with mostly positive feedback, appreciating the visual upgrades and gameplay refinements, although many were split on how closely it stuck to the original. The game proved commercially successful, selling over two million copies by March 2026.
