Legacy of Kain: Defiance is a 2003 action-adventure video game developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Eidos Interactive for PlayStation 2, Xbox and Windows. It represents the fifth and final chronological entry in the Legacy of Kain series.
The game follows Vampire lord Kain and his former lieutenant Raziel, who has become a wraith. Following the events of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, where Raziel was killed and later revived by the Elder God, Kain journeys through time alongside Raziel into Nosgoth’s past. There, they uncover the hidden truths behind the land's eternal corruption. Raziel, having gained free will after refusing to kill Kain when predicted to do so, learns that Moebius the Time Streamer had orchestrated Kain's actions, leading him to start a genocide against vampires until he became the last of his kind. By using Raziel’s unpredictable choices, Kain attempts to reverse the damage caused by his past decisions and restore Nosgoth to its original state.
The PlayStation 2 version was made available digitally via the PlayStation Store as part of the classics program for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on September 16, 2025. It was included in the Premium tier of PlayStation Plus. A remastered edition titled Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered was issued on March 3, 2026.
