ActionCrime drama

Like a Dragon: Yakuza is a Japanese-language American crime action television series that debuted on Amazon Prime Video. The show was made by Amazon MGM Studios, Wild Sheep Content, and 1212 Entertainment. It adapts Sega's Like a Dragon video game franchise, marking the first live-action version since the 2007 film of the same name. The story centers on Kazuma Kiryu (Ryoma Takeuchi), who has just been released from prison after serving ten years for a murder committed by Akira Nishikiyama (Kento Kaku). As he attempts to start over, Kiryu gets pulled back into the world of the Tojo Clan.

The series uses elements from the 2005 Yakuza game and its 2016 remake Yakuza Kiwami for characters and setting, but tells an original story while keeping some key plot points. The project began as a film idea before being developed into a television format instead. The first three episodes were released on October 24, 2024, with the remaining three appearing on November 1, 2024.

Critics gave the series mixed reactions. While praising acting performances—especially those of Ryoma Takeuchi and Kento Kaku—they also pointed out uneven pacing, rough editing, and insufficient loyalty to the source material.
