Supacell is an action-adventure, crime drama, and superhero series from the United Kingdom, released in 2024. It was created and written by Rapman for Netflix. The series was directed by Rapman and Sebastian Thiel. It includes an ensemble cast made up of Tosin Cole, Nadine Mills, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Calvin Demba, Josh Tedeku, and Adelayo Adedayo. Set in contemporary South London, the show follows five Black British individuals who are connected through a family history of sickle cell disease. When they develop superpowers due to their condition—referred to as “supacell”—they become targets of a secret group that wants to control them.

The show faced challenges in securing a US broadcast deal and was turned down by HBO, ABC, and FX. Netflix acquired it in late 2019, prior to the release of Rapman’s first feature film Blue Story. Development and writing took place during the 19 pandemic in 2020. Filming occurred between July 2022 and April 2023 across Southwark, Lewisham, and Bexley in South London. Themes explored include knife crime, racial profiling, poverty, and exploitation of Black bodies.

Supacell debuted on June 27, 2024, and earned favorable reviews from critics. In August 2024, it was announced that the series had been renewed for a second season.
