Dancing for the Devil 2024
Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult is a 2024 American documentary series directed by Derek Doneen. It examines cult allegations against the talent management company 7M Films and its founder Robert Israel Shinn. The series explores the history of 7M Films and details claims of abusive behavior and financial exploitation involving both the company and Shinn.
The documentary centers on accusations made by several former clients of 7M and members of Shinn's Shekinah Church, an organization founded in 1994 and connected to 7M through Shinn. These allegations include physical and sexual abuse. Additionally, it is claimed that 7M and the Shekinah Church took up to 80% of clients' gross pay through various fees and required donations to the church.
The series also follows the story of Miranda Derrick, formerly known as Miranda Wilking, a TikTok dancer who was part of the Wilking Sisters duo. She accumulated millions of followers by creating videos with her sister before being recruited by 7M and joining the Shekinah Church. Her sister and parents claim she has been cut off from family members, along with other dancers brought into 7M's orbit.
7M Films has rejected all claims presented in the documentary. Miranda Derrick responded via Instagram story, describing the allegations as stemming from a family conflict over control of her and her sister’s shared TikTok account. She stated that ongoing litigation, in which she was the plaintiff, prevented her from speaking further. Shinn and other 7M members refused to participate in interviews for the documentary.
Production started in late 2022. The three-part series premiered on Netflix in May 29, 2024.
