Alien Encounters: Fact or Fiction 2024
Alien Encounters: Fact or Fiction is a UFO-focused television series that airs on Discovery Channel. The show examines personal accounts of UFO sightings and alien encounters submitted by participants. It debuts every Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. The program is led by author Mitch Horowitz and podcaster Chrissy Newton, who assess scientific information and research to evaluate guest testimonies about extraterrestrial activity and decide whether or not they can be explained. One episode features geologist Frank Kimbler presenting 20 metal fragments he found near Roswell, New Mexico. Among these items, one was analyzed and confirmed to be "100-percent pure aluminum," according to experts who described it as "compelling evidence" of a prior alien crash in the region.
A review noted: "By using scientific data and research, they attempt to determine if these experiences can be logically explained [and provide] viewers with an engaging viewpoint." In an interview, Horowitz discussed tackling the issue of "overly credulous" attitudes within the UFO community, while also ensuring that credible witness accounts and evidence are given fair consideration. He emphasized reviewing each story based on its own merits. Before Roswell’s 2024 UFO Festival, Horowitz mentioned that participants came from across North America and Latin America, adding, "I think what stands out in the spotlight placed on the experiencers is how skilled and capable many of these individuals are," since several have backgrounds in technology, engineering, or military service. The seventh episode of the season, titled "Crash in California," will air on August 7. It begins with a report from Nevada, followed by an investigation into a possible UFO crash site in Needles, California.
