Marvel Zombies 2025
Marvel Zombies is an American adult animated television series crafted by Bryan Andrews and Zeb Wells for the streaming platform Disney+, adapting the comic book series Marvel Comics of the same name. It marks the 16th television production within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), developed by Marvel Studios Animation. The show originates from the animated series What If...? (2021–2024), specifically rooted in the alternate timeline established during the first season's episode "What If... Zombies?!" (2021). Building on that narrative, Marvel Zombies centers on a group of survivors who battle superpowered zombies in an effort to save humanity. Andrews held the role of showrunner and director, while Wells was the head writer.
The ensemble cast includes Iman Vellani, Dominique Thorne, Hailee Steinfeld, Kerry Condon, Kenna Ramsey, Todd Williams, Kari Wahlgren, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Randall Park, Feodor Chin, Wyatt Russell, Rama Vallury, Elizabeth Olsen, Hudson Thames, Paul Rudd, Greg Furman, Adam Hugill, Daniel Swain, Sheila Atim, Tessa Thompson, F. Murray Abraham, and Zenobia Shroff. During June 2021, Marvel Studios was working on multiple animated projects beyond What If...?, including a spin-off derived from "What If... Zombies?!" which was revealed in November. By that time, both Wells and Andrews were engaged in the project. The animation style mirrors that of What If...?, with Stellar Creative Lab returning to deliver the visuals. This is the first Marvel Studios Animation series to carry the TV-MA rating.
Marvel Zombies premiered on Disney+ on September 24, 2025 and includes four episodes. It is classified as part of Phase Six in the MCU. Critics responded favorably to the series. Three follow-up specials titled The Winter Soldier, The Fist of Khonshu, and The Last Guardian are scheduled for release in 2027, 2028, and 2029, respectively. The Winter Soldier is included in Phase Six, while the other two fall under Phase Seven.
