Slasher

A 2022 American slasher film, Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the ninth entry in the franchise. It was directed by David Blue Garcia and features a screenplay written by Chris Thomas Devlin, based on a story by Fede Álvarez and Rodo Sayagues. The narrative takes place fifty years after the first movie, following Leatherface as he hunts a group of young adults, clashing with a previous survivor seeking revenge. This film is a collaboration between Legendary Pictures, Exurbia Films, and Bad Hombre. Starring Sarah Yarkin, Elsie Fisher, Mark Burnham, Moe Dunford, Nell Hudson, Jessica Allain, Olwen Fouéré, Jacob Latimore, and Alice Krige brings the cast together.

Following the 2017 release of Leatherface, Lionsgate intended to produce five additional films in the series. The studio later lost the franchise rights due to delays in releasing that film. Legendary Pictures then acquired the franchise, with Álvarez and Sayagues as producers along with Pat Cassidy, Ian Henkel, and Kim Henkel, who co-authored the original motion picture. Initially, Ryan and Andy Tohill were chosen as directors but were replaced by Garcia due to creative disagreements. Principal photography occurred in Bulgaria during August 2020.

The film premiered on February 18, 2022, with a wide release on Netflix. Critics gave it generally negative feedback.
