A 2022 musical fantasy comedy film, Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical, or simply Matilda the Musical, was directed by Matthew Warchus and written by Dennis Kelly. It adapts the stage musical created by Tim Minchin and Kelly, which itself originated from Matilda by Roald Dahl. This serves as the second cinematic version of the novel, following the 1996 film Matilda. The movie features Alisha Weir in the role of the title character, alongside Lashana Lynch, Stephen Graham, Andrea Riseborough, Sindhu Vee, and Emma Thompson. In the story, Matilda Wormwood (Weir) faces neglect and mistreatment from her parents (Graham and Riseborough), and gains psychokinetic powers to confront life’s unfairness, including the cruel Miss Trunchbull (Thompson) at Crunchem Hall School.

The adaptation of the stage musical was first revealed in November 2013, with Warchus and Kelly confirmed as director and writer respectively. By January 2020, the project officially launched, confirming Warchus and Kelly’s return, along with Minchin, who would compose new songs for the film. Christopher Nightingale, who had contributed background music to the stage version, also returned to compose the film's incidental score. Casting occurred between January and April 2021, including Weir, Lynch, Thompson, Vee, Graham, and Riseborough. Principal photography began in May 2021.

The film premiered at the 66th BFI London Film Festival on 5 October 2022. It was released theatrically in the United Kingdom on 25 November by Sony Pictures Releasing, while in the United States it had a limited release on 9 December and became available on Netflix on 25 December. Critics responded positively to the film, and it received nominations for Outstanding British Film and Best Makeup and Hair at the 76th British Academy Film Awards.
