Bones and All 2022
Bones and All is a 2022 romantic horror film crafted by Luca Guadagnino and David Kajganich, adapted from Camille DeAngelis’s 2015 novel Bones & All. The story unfolds in the late 1980s, following Taylor Russell and Timothée Chalamet as two young cannibals who fall in love during a cross-country journey. Supporting cast includes Michael Stuhlbarg, André Holland, Chloë Sevigny, David Gordon Green, Jessica Harper, Jake Horowitz, Sean Bridgers, and Mark Rylance.
The film debuted at the 79th Venice International Film Festival on September 2, 2022. There, it earned the Silver Lion for best direction and the Marcello Mastroianni Award, which went to Russell. It opened in U.S. theaters on November 18, 2022, under Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures. Warner Bros. handled global distribution, except in Italy, where Vision Distribution took over. This marked the first time MGM films were distributed internationally by Warner Bros., due to a new multi-year agreement following their prior deal with Universal Pictures.
Critics responded positively, commending Russell, Chalamet, and Rylance's acting, Guadagnino’s direction, cinematography, and score composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. The film was nominated for several awards, including Best Feature, Best Lead Performance for Russell, and Best Supporting Performance for Rylance at the 38th Independent Spirit Awards. Despite its acclaim, it underperformed commercially, earning $15.2 million against a production budget of $16–20 million.
