A 2022 American musical comedy film, Better Nate Than Ever was written and directed by Tim Federle based on his own 2013 novel. The story follows Nate Foster, portrayed by Rueby Wood in his debut movie role, navigating the world of musical theater and Broadway in a coming-of-age narrative. Supporting actors include Lisa Kudrow, Aria Brooks, and Joshua Bassett.
The film premiered worldwide at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on March 15, 2022. It was made available in the United States as a Disney+ original film on April 1. Critics responded positively, and it earned eight nominations at the 1st Children's and Family Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Fiction Special, Outstanding Lead Performance for Wood, and Outstanding Supporting Performance for Kudrow.
Better Nate Than Ever was taken down from Disney+ on May 26, 2023, during a Disney+ and Hulu content removal campaign tied to a company-wide cost reduction effort under Disney CEO Bob Iger. The film was later re-released across various video-on-demand services on September 26, 2023.
