A 2024 supernatural horror film, Witchboard is a remake of the 1986 movie and was written and directed by Chuck Russell. The film features Madison Iseman, Aaron Dominguez, Melanie Jarnson, Charlie Tahan, Antonia Desplat, and Jamie Campbell Bower in leading roles. Its storyline centers on a young couple who open a restaurant in New Orleans and encounter a spirit board originating from 17th-century France, crafted by a powerful witch expelled from her village in the Lorraine province.

Development started in 2017 when Russell took on the role of director and writer, adapting Kevin Tenney’s original screenplay. Russell collaborated with Greg McKay on the writing, incorporating historical details from the French witch trials. Produced as an independent effort between the United States and Canada, Witchboard was filmed in Montreal, Quebec, and New Orleans, Louisiana during mid-2023.

The film made its world premiere at the 28th Fantasia International Film Festival on July 26, 2024, followed by a U.S. release on August 15, 2025. Critics offered mixed reactions, with some praising its visual style as similar to horror films from the 1980s and 1990s. At the box office, it earned $500,798 in total revenue.
