Twisters 2024
Twisters is a 2024 American disaster film directed by Lee Isaac Chung and written by Mark L. Smith, based on a story by Joseph Kosinski. The film serves as a standalone sequel to Twister from 1996 and features an ensemble cast including Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, and Sasha Lane. It centers on competing groups of storm chasers investigating a tornado outbreak in Oklahoma.
Work on a follow-up to the original began in 2020 when Kosinski presented a concept to Warner Bros. Helen Hunt, who starred in the first film, also showed interest in returning for a continuation that was eventually turned down. Multiple directors were considered before Chung was selected in December 2022. Principal photography commenced in early 2023 around Oklahoma, with production pausing briefly due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The movie made its debut at Empire Leicester Square in London on July 8, 2024 and was distributed internationally by Warner Bros. Pictures on July 10. In the United States and Canada, it was released by Universal Pictures on July 19. Critics responded positively to the film, and it earned over $372 million worldwide against a budget of $155 million.
