Western

A 2024 American Western film, Rust is written and directed by Joel Souza. Starring Alec Baldwin (who also produced and co-wrote the story with Souza), Patrick Scott McDermott, Josh Hopkins, Frances Fisher, and Travis Fimmel, the movie depicts an outlaw and his grandson escaping toward Mexico.

Three years prior to its release, the production faced major controversy after a shooting incident involving Souza and cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. A live round was discharged from a prop revolver between takes by Baldwin. Hutchins died shortly afterward, while Souza was injured. Initial charges against Baldwin were dropped in 2023, followed by dismissal of further charges in 2024. Producers, including Baldwin, eventually chose to continue filming with approval from Halyna's mother and family. Souza later expressed regret over starting the project, stating that "I wish I never wrote the damn movie".

The finished film debuted at the Camerimage Polish film festival on November 20, 2024. Rust opened in U.S. theaters on May 2, 2025 receiving mixed reviews. The movie earned only $26,831 despite a budget of $8 million.
