Bouchra is a 2024 adult animated art drama film, originally named For Aicha. It was directed, written by, and stars Meriem Bennani and Orian Barki. The movie was commissioned by Milan's Fondazione Prada and created using the Blender platform. This marks the first full-length film directed by Bennani and Barki. In the film, Bennani provides the voice for the main character—Bouchra, a lesbian Moroccan canid living in Brooklyn, New York City. The story is a semi-autobiographical exploration of personal and sexual identity through a series of phone conversations with her mother in Casablanca.

The narrative shares the same fictional world as 2 Lizards, a web series created by Bennani and Barki during the COVID-19 period. The film took two years to make as part of an art exhibit designed by Bennani for Prada’s home city facility. Nearly 20 people were involved in the project in New York. Backgrounds were filmed using live-action material, while Bouchra and Aicha's dialogue scenes—added during post-production—were taken from real recordings made by Bennani. Some members of the 2 Lizards team rejoined for this follow-up, including composer Flavien Berger. During production, Bennani faced creative challenges and multiple script revisions, aiming to create a story that would connect with both Western and Middle Eastern viewers.

Bouchra premiered at Prada’s location under its original title For Aicha on 31 October 2024. After being re-edited and retitled, the film debuted at Toronto and New York's 2025 festivals. This marked Bennani's first appearance at either venue in three years. It became the first animated movie to be nominated for the Platform Prize at Toronto, though it was ultimately not awarded; the Ukrainian live-action film To the Victory! won. A month later, Bouchra received the Gold Q-Hugo at the OutLook program of the Chicago International Film Festival, which focuses on LGBTQ+ works. The film was released in the U.S. by Film Movement (through international distributor Lucky Number) on 26 June 2026.

Critics responded positively to Bouchra, especially highlighting its cultural and LGBTQ+ themes, psychological depth, use of reality versus fiction, and animation style. Some critics compared it to Disney’s 2016 Zootopia and works by Richard Linklater, although they criticized the quality of the CGI and noted that the metafictional structure could be hard to follow. The film was warmly received at its festival screenings and became popular among users of the Letterboxd site, particularly within the furry community.
