Back to Black 2024
Back to Black is a 2024 biographical drama film about English singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse, portrayed by Marisa Abela. The movie was directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and written by Matt Greenhalgh, with additional starring roles for Jack O'Connell, Eddie Marsan, and Lesley Manville.
After Winehouse passed away in July 2011, multiple filmmakers tried to develop biopic projects, though none moved forward. In 2018, her estate agreed to a film deal concerning her life and career. By July 2022, StudioCanal began production, with filming occurring in London between January and April 2023.
The film premiered in Australia through StudioCanal on 11 April 2024, followed by a UK release on 12 April 2024. In the United States, Focus Features distributed it on 17 May 2024. Critics gave the film mixed reviews, and it earned $51 million globally.
