A 2018 science fiction action film, The Meg was directed by Jon Turteltaub and features a screenplay written by Dean Georgaris, Jon Hoeber, and Erich Hoeber. It is loosely adapted from the 1997 novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten. The movie includes actors Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Winston Chao, and Cliff Curtis. The story follows scientists who come across a megalodon during a rescue operation in the Pacific Ocean's depths.

Walt Disney Studios acquired the novel’s film rights in the 1990s, though production faced delays for years. Eventually, Warner Bros. Pictures obtained the project, and the film moved forward in 2013. September 2014 joined Turteltaub and most of the cast. Principal photography commenced in October 2016 and concluded in January 2017, taking place in New Zealand and China.

The Meg premiered in the United States on August 10, 2018. Critics gave it mixed reviews, and it earned $529 million globally against a production budget of $130–178 million. A follow-up titled Meg 2: The Trench was released in 2023.
