A Quiet Place 2018
A 2018 American post apocalyptic horror film, A Quiet Place was directed by John Krasinski. The screenplay was co-written by Krasinski, Scott Beck, and Bryan Woods, with the story developed by Beck and Woods. It follows a mother (Emily Blunt) and father (Krasinski) as they attempt to survive and care for their children (Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe) in a world where blind alien creatures with heightened hearing threaten existence.
Beck and Woods created the idea during their time in college and began working on the script in January 2016. They approached Platinum Dunes producers and requested that Blunt be cast as the mother. In July 2016, Krasinski came across their script and accepted the role of the father. By March 2017, Krasinski had been announced as director, co-writer, and co-star alongside Blunt. Principal photography occurred in upstate New York between May and November 2017.
The film made its debut at South by Southwest on March 9, 2018 before opening in the United States on April 6, 2018 through Paramount Pictures. It earned over $340 million globally and garnered widespread critical praise. A Quiet Place was named one of the top ten films of 2018 by both the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute. The movie was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score, an Academy Award for Best Sound Editing, and a Writers Guild of America Award for Best Original Screenplay. Blunt received a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role. This film initiated the A Quiet Place universe, with its sequel, A Quiet Place Part II, launching in 2020.
