A 2018 American dark fantasy comedy film, The House with a Clock in Its Walls was directed by Eli Roth and adapted from a 1973 novel by John Bellairs. Starring Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, and Owen Vaccaro, the story centers on Lewis, a young boy who moves in with his uncle Jonathan after being sent to an old, creaky house. This home was once occupied by a malevolent warlock. The film opened in the United States on September 21, 2018 through Universal Pictures and was distributed internationally by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Worldwide earnings exceeded $131 million, and while critics offered mixed-to-positive feedback, they emphasized the performances of the cast. Many felt the movie did not fully realize its possibilities.
