Robin Hood 2018
A 2018 American action-adventure film, Robin Hood follows the story of a modern retelling of the classic legend. The movie was directed by Otto Bathurst and written by Ben Chandler and David James Kelly, with the original story credited to Chandler. It centers on the training of Robin by John as he prepares to steal from the Sheriff of Nottingham. The main character is played by Taron Egerton, with supporting roles taken by Jamie Foxx, Ben Mendelsohn, Eve Hewson, Tim Minchin, and Jamie Dornan.
Upon returning to England, aristocrat Robin of Loxley discovers that the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham (Mendelsohn) has taken his family estate. He teams up with Friar Tuck (Minchin) and Little John (Foxx), an Arabian warrior determined to end the Crusades. With arrows in hand and given the name Robin Hood, Loxley gathers a group of rebels to execute a bold scheme aimed at stealing from the Sheriff and removing his authority.
The film was announced in February 2015, with Egerton cast as lead in September of that year. Hewson, Foxx, and Mendelsohn joined the cast during the following year, and principal filming started in February 2017, concluding in May. It was released by Lionsgate on November 21, 2018. Critics gave it poor reviews, and it earned $86 million against a production cost of $100 million. Because of its failure both critically and financially, the film was often compared to King Arthur: Legend of the Sword from 2017. Robin Hood received three Razzie nominations, including Worst Remake, Worst Supporting Actor for Foxx, and Worst Picture.
