Science fiction

Prospect is a 2018 American western sci fi film that marks the feature directorial debut of Zeek Earl and Chris Caldwell, who also co-wrote the script. Sophie Thatcher makes her feature-film debut in the role, joined by Pedro Pascal and Jay Duplass. The story centers on a teenage girl and her father as they journey to a toxic forest moon in search of valuable gems. An encounter with rival prospectors leaves the girl reliant on a dangerous stranger for survival.

The movie was developed from a 2014 short film by the same name created by Earl and Caldwell. It was produced on a budget of less than $4 million, filmed in Washington state, and relied heavily on practical sets, props, and costumes to build its retrofuturistic atmosphere. The film made its debut at the South by Southwest Film Festival on March 10, 2018. Gunpowder & Sky, through its science-fiction label Dust, distributed the film theatrically in the United States on November 2, 2018. It was later released on DVD and Blu-ray on March 5, 2019, followed by a video on demand release on March 8.

Critics responded positively to the film, especially noting its world-building, production design, and acting.
