Overlord represents a 2018 American alternate history action horror film starring Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell, Mathilde Ollivier, John Magaro, Gianny Taufer, Pilou Asbæk, Bokeem Woodbine and Iain De Caestecker. The movie was written by Billy Ray and Mark L. Smith and directed by Julius Avery. Lindsey Weber and J. J. Abrams produced the film through his Bad Robot banner, marking the first R-rated production for the company. Set during World War II, the story centers on American troops inserted behind enemy lines just before D-Day who encounter horrific Nazi scientific projects. The film premiered in the United States on November 9, 2018 through Paramount Pictures. Critics responded favorably to the movie which earned $41.7 million worldwide while costing $38 million to make.
