Science fictionSuperheroSupernatural
Fast Color is a 2018 American superhero drama film that unfolds the tale of Ruth, portrayed by Mbatha-Raw, a woman possessing supernatural abilities fleeing both police and scientists seeking to exploit her gifts. The story was crafted by Hart and Jordan Horowitz, with Julia Hart taking on the role of director. Mickey Lidell and Pete Shilaimon served as producers alongside Horowitz. Among the cast are Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Lorraine Toussaint, Saniyya Sidney, Christopher Denham, and David Strathairn.
Announced in January 2017, the project featured Mbatha-Raw's involvement and LD Entertainment committed to full funding. Principal photography commenced on March 13, 2017 in New Mexico and spanned 28 days. The film premiered internationally at South by Southwest on March 10, 2018. It made its official release on April 19, 2019 through Lionsgate and Codeblack Films. Critics responded favorably to Mbatha-Raw's performance and the film’s distinct approach among superhero movies, although the script received some criticism.
A television adaptation is being developed at Amazon Studios, with JuVee Productions led by Viola Davis handling production. The original screenwriters are set to return and write the series.
