A 2020 action thriller film, The Rhythm Section stars Blake Lively, Jude Law and Sterling K. Brown. It was directed by Reed Morano and written by Mark Burnell based on his own novel. The story centers on a woman who avenges her family after learning the plane crash that killed them was a terrorist act. Released in the United States on January 31, 2020 by Paramount Pictures, it garnered mixed reviews. Critics appreciated Lively's acting but found fault with the storyline. The film performed poorly at the box office, earning $6 million despite costing $50 million. It had the worst opening weekend for any movie playing in over 3,000 theaters. Just two weeks later, it was removed from 2,955 screens entirely. Paramount anticipated losses between $30 and 40 million dollars.
