Science fiction horror

A Quiet Place Part II is a 2020 American post-apocalyptic horror film written, directed, and co-produced by John Krasinski. The movie continues the story of the family from the first film, who must survive in a world where blind aliens with heightened hearing have taken over. These creatures hunt by sound, forcing survivors to live in silence. Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, and Krasinski reprise their roles, while Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou are added to the cast.

Paramount Pictures started planning a sequel in April 2018 after A Quiet Place achieved strong box office results. By August, Krasinski was developing the screenplay, and by February 2019, he had been confirmed as director again. His original concept centered on making Simmonds the main character, believing her role would help carry forward the themes of the first film into the next chapter. Principal photography occurred in Western New York between June and September 2019. Krasinski was credited with writing the screenplay, which was based on characters created by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. The sequel had a budget of approximately , more than three times that of the original film.

The movie premiered worldwide in New York City on March 8, 2020. Due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it finally opened in theaters in the United States on , 2021. It became available for streaming on Paramount+ 45 days after its theatrical release. The film broke multiple box office records, including the highest opening weekend during the pandemic, and earned $297.5 million globally. Critics responded positively, especially praising the narrative and the introduction of Murphy’s character Emmett. A Quiet Place Part III, the final installment in the series, is set for release on July 30, 2027.
