Biographical drama

Capone is a 2020 American biographical drama film written, directed and edited by Josh Trank, with Tom Hardy starring as the eponymous gangster Al Capone. The movie focuses on Capone following his 11-year term at Atlanta Penitentiary, during which he suffers from neurosyphilis and dementia while residing in Florida. Supporting cast includes Linda Cardellini, Jack Lowden, Noel Fisher, Kyle MacLachlan, and Matt Dillon. The project was initially announced in October 2016 under the title Fonzo, but filming did not commence until March 2018, concluding in May within Louisiana.

Though originally planned for theatrical distribution, Capone debuted exclusively through Premium VOD via Vertical Entertainment and Redbox Entertainment on May 12, 2020 because of the COVID-19 outbreak. Critics gave the film a mixed reception; while Hardy's acting received some recognition, Trank's screenplay and overall tone faced criticism.
