Black Beauty 2020
Adventure dramaChildren's dramaDrama
A 2020 adventure drama family film, Black Beauty was written, edited and directed by Ashley Avis and adapted from Anna Sewell's 1877 novel of the same name. This co-production involving the United States, the United Kingdom, South Africa, France and Germany features Kate Winslet, Mackenzie Foy, Iain Glen, Calam Lynch, Claire Forlani and Fern Deacon. It marks the sixth cinematic version of the story. In this adaptation, Black Beauty appears as a mare rather than a stallion, arriving at Birtwick Park where she connects with a spirited young person through various experiences and difficulties. The film was originally set for theatrical release but could not open in cinemas because of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Walt Disney Studios acquired the distribution rights and released it on their streaming platform Disney+ on November 27, 2020. Critics gave the film mixed reviews. The movie was taken off Disney+ on May 26, 2023.
