Artemis Fowl is a 2020 American science fantasy film adapted from the 2001 novel by Irish writer Eoin Colfer. The movie was directed by Kenneth Branagh, with screenwriting collaboration between Conor McPherson and Hamish McColl. Leading roles are played by Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Josh Gad, Tamara Smart, Nonso Anozie, Colin Farrell, and Judi Dench. The story follows Artemis Fowl II, a twelve-year-old Irish genius who partners with his loyal servant, a dwarf, and a fairy to save his father, Artemis Fowl I, after he is taken hostage by a fairy seeking to recover a stolen object from the Fowl family.

The project was initially planned as a franchise by Miramax in 2001 but remained in development limbo with various directors and writers involved before Walt Disney Pictures brought it back in 2013. In 2015, Branagh was appointed to direct, and principal photography started in 2018.

Originally scheduled for a 2019 theatrical release, the film’s debut was postponed to 2020 and then canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak. It was instead made available globally through digital platforms exclusively on Disney+ on June 12, 2020. Critics gave the film poor reviews, citing issues with its storyline, dialogue, character development, visual effects, and alterations from the original source.

In October 2026, it was announced that an animated reboot series would be developed for Disney+.
