Hollow Knight: Silksong 2025
Hollow Knight: Silksong is a 2025 Metroidvania video game developed and published by Australian indie studio Team Cherry. As the follow-up to Hollow Knight (2017), the narrative centers on Hornet, a key supporting figure from the earlier title, who has been taken captive and brought to the distant realm of Pharloom. Players control Hornet as she explores expansive, interlinked regions of this new kingdom, engaging in combat, solving platforming puzzles, and advancing story missions using a variety of abilities, equipment, and mobility options.
The project was initially conceived as downloadable content allowing players to control Hornet within Hollow Knight. It was funded through a pledge goal during the 2014 Kickstarter campaign for the original game. Over time, the scope expanded, leading Team Cherry to announce in February 2019 that it would evolve into a complete standalone sequel. After being delayed past its intended 2023 launch window, Silksong released on 4 September 2025 across Linux, macOS, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. The game will receive free updates, with the first one planned for 2026.
Critics praised Silksong for its visual presentation, musical score, narrative, environmental design, and gameplay mechanics. However, reactions to its demanding challenge level varied. The title received several award nominations, including multiple nods for [[List of Game of the Year awards|game of the year]]. By December 2025, it had surpassed seven million copies sold.
