Resident Evil Requiem 2026
Resident Evil Requiem is a 2026 survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom. It stands as the ninth primary entry in the Resident Evil franchise, succeeding Resident Evil Village (2021). The title introduces a new playable character, FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, who delves into a string of unexplained deaths among survivors from the Raccoon City disaster, assisted by federal agent Leon S. Kennedy.
The gameplay switches between Grace and Leon’s perspectives. Grace's segments follow the survival horror mechanics seen in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017) and Resident Evil Village. Leon’s parts emphasize action elements akin to titles such as Resident Evil 4 (2005). Players can control both characters in either first-person or third-person views.
The game was announced in July 2024 and showcased at Summer Game Fest in June 2025. Directed by Koshi Nakanishi, who also helmed Resident Evil 7, Requiem initially began as an open-world online multiplayer experience but transitioned into a traditional single-player format by 2021. Built using the RE Engine, it was the first Resident Evil game created specifically for ninth-generation consoles. Leon makes his return after a major role in Resident Evil 6 (2012), now redesigned to look older.
Requiem launched on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on February 27, 2026. It received widespread critical praise for its dark narrative, immersive setting, and blend of survival horror with action. Within five days of release, it sold five million copies, and exceeded eight million within six months, making it the fastest-selling Resident Evil game in history.
